SPARK

Join us beneath a vast night sky for SPARK, a cinematic celebration of Lightning Ridge. SPARK is about what makes Lightning Ridge so special – why people come for a few days then stay a lifetime.

Audiences love SPARK’s celebration of the natural, cultural and technological heritage of Lightning Ridge’s opal fields, their opal and people. Look out: people have decided to move to Lightning Ridge after seeing SPARK! Sit back under the stars, forget the world for a while and be back in town in time for dinner.

Created by renowned cinematographer, director and editor Martin Fox, sound artist Vic McEwan, local artists and dozens of residents, SPARK stars the people, land, opal and life on Yuwaalaraay country at Lightning Ridge.

In 2024, there’s a special Easter Saturday screening at 7.30pm, 30 March 2024 (later start than usual because of daylight saving), then our 2024 SPARK season will commence on Tuesday 9 April 2024.

Other than on 30 March (see above), SPARK is on at 6.30pm (please arrive by 6.15pm) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights from Easter until the September/October school holidays.

You can buy tickets HERE or at the Australian Opal Centre or Lightning Ridge Visitor Information Centre. Tickets may be available at the door, but pre-purchasing is preferable.

Group bookings and parties welcome – please call 02 6829 1667.

Wear warm clothes and to be really comfy, free to bring a blanket, snacks and drinks!

You’re also welcome to have a look in the Shed, where you can buy a T-shirt or souvenir, contemplate a century old opal cutting machine and enjoy ‘Brilliant Ideas’, an exhibition about the inventive opal miners and engineers who developed opal mining machinery for Lightning Ridge.
