Harold Hodges’ Opal Teeth

The Australian Opal Centre’s members’ famous first newsletter, Harold Hodges’ Opal Teeth, was published from 2005 to 2018. It was named for the infamous opal denture of local personality Harold Hodges - one of the most iconic items in the AOC collection.

Harold Hodges’ Opal Teeth documents a wonderful period in the development of the AOC - click a newsletter to read and enjoy!

Learn more about Harold Hodges and his colourful smile here, or on Lightning Ridge Historical Society’s web site, and in these videos from Curiosity Mine. A short biography of Harold is also available in our online shop.

Harold's opal denture was donated to the AOC because we named our newsletter for it, rather than the other way around!

Kevin (Shorty) and Helen Williams, friends of Harold’s who’d become custodians of the famous denture, gifted it to the AOC in 2009 after seeing a copy of the newsletter.

Our thanks, always, to Kevin and Helen.
