Clytie Smith

Clytie Smith has more than 20 years’ experience in the performance industry, as a production manager, technical coordinator, theatre project manager, company touring manager, site manager, and lighting designer and operator.

Since 2014, Clytie has worked as a team leader on the Lightning Ridge Fossil Dig and since 2016, has been a key member of the creative and production teams for SPARK. Her parents, Dr Elizabeth Smith — palaeontologist, writer, artist, and expert on Lightning Ridge fossils — and Robert A. Smith, opal photographer, have made major contributions to the Australian Opal Centre’s collections and programs. Having lived in Lightning Ridge as a child, Clytie returns regularly to visit family, search for opal and opalised fossils, cut opal, and contribute to local projects.

Clytie is a Life Member and Founder of the Australian Opal Centre, has donated opalised fossils to the AOC collection, and is a former management committee member of the Lightning Ridge Opal & Fossil Centre. She has supported the AOC’s visiting schools program, served on the User Requirements Committee for the new AOC building, and is serving a second term on the AOC Building Subcommittee.

Clytie holds a Master of Arts in Screenwriting and a Bachelor of Nursing.
