Martin Bloomfield

Martin Bloomfield’s diverse career spans public sector management, business enterprise, law enforcement, and community development in both the United Kingdom and Australia.

Martin has a strong track record in securing government and corporate funding through strategic grant writing and advocacy, and is deeply committed to supporting the long-term financial sustainability of the Australian Opal Centre. He is known for his commitment to accountability, disciplined governance, and strategic thinking, with experience delivering complex, volunteer-led projects and achieving practical outcomes in challenging, resource-limited environments.

Martin enjoys building productive partnerships with government agencies, community organisations, industry stakeholders, donors and volunteers to advance shared objectives. His fascination with opal began shortly after emigrating to Australia and has grown into a lasting passion for opal’s scientific and cultural significance.

Now retired and based in Tasmania, Martin is strongly aligned with the AOC’s mission and motivated to contribute a national perspective to a project of international significance, which he views as a vital catalyst for local, regional, and national economic and cultural development.
