David Lane OAM

David Lane OAM brings deep local knowledge and extensive governance, leadership and regional business experience to the Board. A long-term resident of Lightning Ridge, David has held leadership roles in local government, emergency services and community organisations, contributing to community development and civic life.

David served for several years as Mayor and Councillor of Walgett Shire Council, participating in regional strategic planning, community development, and engagement with local, regional, and state government funding agencies. This has provided him with a strong understanding of public governance and stakeholder engagement in regional and remote contexts.

He has also held senior leadership roles in emergency services, including as former State President of the NSW Emergency Services Volunteers Association and as Local Controller of the Lightning Ridge State Emergency Service and Mines Rescue. He currently chairs the Board of the Lightning Ridge Area Opal Reserve.

A businessman with decades of experience in regional and remote operations, David has owned and managed enterprises across opal mining, solar power, fuel supply, earthmoving, and logistics.

David was the founding President of Lightning Ridge Opal & Fossil Centre Incorporated, is a Life Member and Founder of the Australian Opal Centre, and remains deeply committed to the AOC’s purpose and long-term sustainability.
